Holy Saturday

Devotional

CANDLES (Unlit Candle)

We remember the darkness of Jesus’s last days, and we wait for the dawn of Easter morning.

READ: JOHN 19:38-42 & LAMENTATIONS 3:1-24

ACT: SILENCE

Today, take as much silence as you are able. For ten minutes to an hour, turn off all electronics, quiet conversation, and allow your space to be filled with silence. If you have young kids, you may need to do this before they awake or after they go to bed. If you do it as a family, you may do as much silence as you are able. In the silence, allow yourself to breath, to cry, to simply be with the God who rested in the grave on the seventh day after all was completed.

PRAY

O God, Creator of heaven and earth:  Grant that, as the crucified body of your dear Son was laid in the tomb and rested on this holy Sabbath, so we may await with him the coming of the third day, and rise with him to newness of life; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
