EASTER SUNRISE
Devotional
SUNRISE BONFIRE AT 6:30 AM
Have your bonfire lit by 6:30 AM, or if you are indoors light as many candles as you can find. Then, at 6:30 listen for the church bells if you are in Brook. If you are out of town, a video of the bells will be provided. After the bells rings, begin the service.
Call: Hallelujah! Christ is Risen!
Response: He is Risen Indeed! Hallelujah!
READING: JOHN 20:1-18
SONG: THIS IS THE DAY
This is the day / This is the day /
That the Lord has made / that the Lord has made.
I will rejoice / I will rejoice / And be glad in it / And be glad in it
This is the day that the Lord has made / I will rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day / This is the day / That the Lord has made
SONG: MORNING HAS BROKEN
Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing
Praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the world
Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dew fall on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass
Mine is the sunlight
Mine is the morning
Born of the one light Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day
SILENCE & MEDITATION
During this time, allow yourself to feel the sadness of not meeting with friends, family, and church members on this Easter Sunday. Remember that Jesus’s disciples also felt sadness on this day. Allow yourself to feel the fear that accompanies us in the season of life. Remember that Jesus’s disciples were afraid as they ran back from the tomb. Allow yourself to feel doubt, just as Thomas did on that first Easter. Finally, allow yourself to feel hope or peace, remembering that on this day, Jesus rose from the dead.
PRAYER
Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord's resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
