EXPLANATIONS OF THE SERVICES

PICTURE

Each day there is a different prayer that focuses on an aspect of who Christ is for us, accompanied by a simple wood cut picture (created by Br. Martin Erspamer). Allow the prayer and picture to help focus your prayer and your day.

 

CANDLES

Begin each service with a candle or many candles. Monday-Thursday, light the candles with the prayer provided. Friday-Saturday, do not light the candle, but say the prayer provided.

 

READINGS

Monday-Friday have readings from John’s Gospel that chronicle Jesus’s last day leading up to his crucifixion. Saturday has a prayer from Lamentations, and Easter Sunday has its own readings.

 

PONDER

Take time to ponder these questions, individually or as a family.

 

ACT

Every day there is an action to do corresponding to the reading. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are a little more involved with a foot washing service and a recitation of the “Good Friday Reproaches.”

 

PRAY

Pray the prayer for each day adding any prayers that you want to add.
